They spent the late 80′s and 90′s melting faces with their super fast and super technical music. I will admit that I am quite excited about this show. It is rare to see an 80′s metal band who’s music stands any sort of test of time. Even rarer for said band to still be friends and playing music together.

So, 4th & B is doing what they do best: giving former arena superstars the chance to keep doing what they love doing for an ever dwindling audience. MR Big is playing this Saturday night, July 30th. Imperial Beach’s very own Hocus, “The World’s Most Dangerous Band” will be performing during San Diego’s “Sand Castle Days” in Imperial Beach during their 31st U.S. Open Sand Castle Competition.

At least 100,000 people per day will be in attendance. During this event there will be live music being performed throughout the weekend with MTV filming the festivities.

Hocus will be performing on Sunday, July 24th @ 10:15 a.m. The documentary crew that filmed “A San Diego Concert Film” last year which features performances from The Soft Pack, Transfer, The Silent Comedy, and Hocus… will be filming the show for another project in which Hocus was approached to participate.

Also the following Friday, Hocus will be performing at Lydia’s Cafe on July 29. Also sharing the bill is THE DEAD POSSUMS AND THE ROADKILL SHOW with THE BAJA BUGS (member’s of The Zero’s)

The pic used is an older pic of the band, from one of their photo shoots. Definitely not a pic that the interviewer snapped. There is PK and Steve, right in the back there. I remember PK hanging out with friends and the general public at the bar across the street from House of Blues before every show. Very classy.

But the photo used does not accurately represent the band any more. Scott is still in. Of course. And Drummer/Ripper Dylan is still in. I love watching him play. It took me a long time to forgive the Law for dropping founding member and drummer Wade Youman. That happened right after my good friend was fired from drumming for Lucky 7 for no reason. And Unwritten Law was guilty by association. But now I know that Wade was a mess and earned his walking papers.

But I digress.

Scott’s there. So is Dylan. PK looks different. So does Steve.

Who are these new people? Where are the old people? And at what point does Unwritten Law become a cover band? Sebastian Bach is touring and recording albums, but he doesn’t call it Skid Row.

I checked the official web site, and Facebook page. No mention of a lineup change. I checked Wikipedia. PK and Steve are still listed as current members.

My insider info tells me that they quit. But this has not been substantiated. Unwritten Law is 21 years old. Old enough to drink. I wasn’t even playing drums 21 years ago. Sometimes you have to know when to throw in the towel. But who knows? And many people might ask “who cares”?

I think that as long as they are still having fun making music, they should get to play as long as they want to. And they don’t owe us anything. Also, they don’t throw me any bones, so I don’t feel like I have to help maintain their image. I am still unbought, and will say what I think.

I am still working through my thoughts. But it is strange that Scott is the only person who has been in the band for more than 2 years, and nobody knows it.

What do you think? Does it even matter?

So, I’m going to leave the marketing stuff for the jerks. We are family here.  There are two apps I made. Scene Shaper and Scene Finder. You check in and find local events. Not just concerts. Anything with an address and start time.

Scene Shaper is the paid app. It lets you post your own events. No waiting for permission. No authorization. Just you and the world.

Scene Finder is the free version. You can’t enter events, but you can do everything else. This hasn’t been approved and posted to the iStore yet. Maybe tomorrow.

So, I am going to keep working on SanDiegoPunk. Scene Shaper is not going to replace what I do here. Scene Shaper gives you some of the power that I have. So if you have an event that you want to share with the locals, pick up the app and share it. Anything goes.
